France : Average apple harvest and decrease in pears

On the 1st July 2015, French apple production was estimated at 1.6 million tons, up +4% compared to the 2014 harvest and 2% below the 2010-2014 average. Acreage is stable overall, but with a slight decrease in the Loire region. Today, French apple orchards cover 37,500 hectares.

Pear production should reach almost 124,000 tons, i.e. a -6% decrease compared to 2014 and -13% below the 5 year average. Acreage has decreased to 5,200 hectares, which is -2% below that recorded in 2014 and -7% compared to the 5 year average. A -8% decrease (compared to 2014) in acreage has been reported in the PACA region this year.
