Lufthansa Cargo congratulates the center

Perishable Center Frankfurt celebrates 20th anniversary

It doesn't matter: asparagus from Peru, meat from Argentina or flowers from Kenya, every day up to 700 metric tons of cargo is handled at the 9,000 square metres large area. The largest climate controlled centre in Europe is celebrating its 20th anniversary. To perfectly store perishable produce 20 different temperature zones are available, between -24 degrees Celsius and +24 degrees Celsius. About 120 workers care for the sensitive cargo and make sure that the goods are moved as fast as possible from the planes to the storage and prepare it for the rest of the journey into Europe. The majority of the produce (96%) leaves the Perishable Center the same day.

Together with the Perishable Center, Lufthansa Cargo is an ideal partner to transport fresh high-quality, produce to its customers as fast as possible. Lufthansa Cargo is the only airline with their competence team directly on site at the PCF. This team coordinates the loading and ensures the maximum quality of the produce. “This intensive cooperation has existed since 2012,” reminisces Oliver Blum, Head of Operations Fresh/td.

A wide variety of projects have been realised together. The goal is the best quality possible, which they are trying to achieve. The desire to strengthen and advance the location in Frankfurt is one of the other resolutions addressed in the cooperation. “I look forward to the future with the Perishable Center and wish them success,” says Oliver Blum and adds: “together with Lufthansa Cargo.”
