in former Hispa building

Kivits-Drunen / Goes Handling start logistics centre in Barendrecht

As of the 1st of January 2016 the combination of Kivits Drunen / Goes Handling will move into a cooling house and logistics centre in Barendrecht. This is both buildings used by the former Hispa, and are currently being used by Staay-Hispa. "Kivits has been looking for a location in Barendrecht for years, but a sufficiently sized building combined with the right company economic conditions wasn't available. Enough space, the right price and the right location are critical factors in organising a successful operation," says Rob van Opzeeland, manager of Kivits-Drunen.

Ad Goes, Rob van Opzeeland and Miguel Gonzalez

In 2014 Kivits-Drunen successfully restarted the Goes cool houses in De Meern with a number of former Goesers, after the Goes companies went bankrupt. "This has shown that, in this case, one plus one is two and a half," says Ad Goes, director of Goes Handling BV. "Goes with its loyal customers, knowledge of fruit storage and the availability of 10 ULO cells, that Kivits didn't have available. And Kivits with its own transport company, packaging station (Boostpacking BV), logistical process engineering company (Boostlogix BV), freight forwarding company (K&H Forwarding BV) and their knowledge of logistics for retail make a great match and ensure an advantage to all stake holders.

The contact between the owner of the buildings in Barendrecht, Miguel Gonzalez and Rob van Opzeeland has been around for a while. When it became clear that Staay-Hispa would move, multiple options for the buildings were discussed. In the end a deal was made in which Kivits-Goes will rent both buildings and use them as a logistics centre. In this use the other activities of Kivits-Goes will become available for the customers in Barendrecht (packagins, transport, process engineering and freight forwarding). There are also multiple office units for hire to customers.

"We are convinced that this new step will allow us to serve existing and new customers eve better. Cooled storage in a triangle of Waalwijk - De Meern - Barendrecht (10 buildings in total), packaging at all locations, as well as office space. By organising volumes, multiple locations and all indirect processes centrally, and therefore efficiently, means we all taking this step with confidence," according to Rob Opzeeland.

As of January Kivits - Goes will use a total of ten primarily cooled logistic buildings, have over 100 cooled trucks driving around the Benelux and process more than 10,000 orders per week. In total there are around 250 people working in the conditioned Supply Chain every day.
