“Primary fresh haulier of the year 2015”

Year of achievements for Girteka Logistics

Girteka Logistics, owning one of the biggest transport fleets in Europe, has been awarded as “Primary fresh haulier of the year 2015” by Tesco, a British multinational grocery and general merchandise retailer. And this is only one achievement for the company this year, despite a difficult market for transport companies in the CIS region Girteka Logistics managed to continue growing their market share.

Never-say-no attitude for Tesco
Girteka Logistics has been working closely with Tesco for a number of years, striving to deliver a never-say-no attitude. This attitude enabled Tesco to develop robust supply chain solutions delivering an increased service to their depots and customers; and for Girteka Logistics – to gain “Tesco Value Award”, which is presented to suppliers, providing exceptional service.

Highest ever turnover

Girteka Logistics has managed to balance their focus on business and bottom-line with strong customer service and kept promises for clients. For the first time ever the holding company of Girteka Logistics – a group of companies, working under the same brand – published its Annual Report together with the consolidated financial statement summary audited by EY (formerly Ernst & Young).

The Annual Report showed, that last year UAB “ME Investicija” – the holding company – achieved the highest ever turnover of more that € 450 Million. According to Mr. Liachovicius, this achievement was possible because of continuous investments into growth on the European and Scandinavian markets.

Fleet dedicated for food

Not unusually for the industry, Girteka Logistics is a family owned company and a major European road carrier with more than 7.100 employees. Everyday their employees work in 30 European countries. Girteka Logistics specialises in delivering temperature controlled shipments and has more than 2.500 reefer trailers for food and valuables deliveries, as well as 3100 trucks, meeting only Euro 5 and Euro 6 emission standard.

The total capacity that Girteka Logistics can deliver per year with its own reefer trailers is 720.000 tons. What is more interesting, 47% of all shipments are food products, including fruits and vegetables, with an additional 11% of beverages. That makes Girteka Logistics one of the most specialised companies in the food deliveries industry.

Last year Girteka Logistics delivered 155.000 tons of fruits and vegetables; and had already reached 110.000 tonnes through the first 29 weeks of 2015, which is a bit more than the weight of “Allure of the Seas”, the largest cruise ship in the world. At the moment trending destination points for fruits and vegetables are mainly from the Mediterranean region to Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, but Girteka is planning to expand its network.

Recently Girteka Logistics managed to strengthen its fleet and has taken first deliveries from recent order of forty new Volvo FH tractor units. New delivery marked the 2500th Volvo truck delivered to Girteka Logistics since 2007 from Volvo Trucks. High safety standards and low fuel consumption is indicative for Girteka Logistics that, like Volvo, views road safety and the environment as fundamental values.

Reaching the right goals
Reaching the goal of becoming one of the 10 biggest companies in its country of origin – Lithuania – Girteka Logistics also started to put a higher focus on social responsibility and transparency issues. The new Code of Conduct was introduced in early 2015, as well as an official statement of joining United Nations Global Compact.

“Our intention is to build a sustainable business that delivers benefits to people, communities and markets. Being one of the biggest and strongest transport companies in the Easter region we have an obligation to care about the future of the society we are working in. At the moment, our biggest focus lies in environmental issues as well as traffic safety”, states Mr. Liachovicius.

Company was also listed within the top 3 employers, together with international money transfer company “Western Union Processing Lithuania” in the first place and IT services and outsourcing company “CSC Baltic” as the second.
