Italy: New customised bags for Gavina mini-wateremelons

Gavina is the sweet seedless mini-watermelon produced by the Agricola Campidanese PO.

In order to promote this product even more, the cooperative has introduced a new personalised packaging - a bag with the Gavina logo on the front and the history of the mini-watermelons on the back.

The watermelons are already placed in the practical bags before they are arranged in crates, which contain 6/7 fruits for a total weight of 16 kg.

This new packaging was created specially for Gavina. A QR-code will also enable the access of the Gavina page on the company website.

The history
Gavina mini-watermelons are part of the Jubilee variety. They have a light green rind with dark green streaks.

The characteristics
- Round fruit weighing 1.8-2.2 kg. Thin light-green rind.
- Crunchy, bright red seedless flesh, very sweet (12° Brix on average) and aromatic.

Obtained by two plants - Gavina, which only has female flowers, and a pollinating plant. Bees do the rest.

Because it is a hybrid, it is seedless and only has some soft white seeds that can be eaten easily. It can develop some dark hard ones only if stressed (i.e. low temperatures during the first growing phases).

This extraordinary fruit can be obtained by implementing the right cultivation techniques on a suitable soil. The mild climate and sunshine of Sardinia are essential.
