"Marius Kamps: "Green beans going to retailers, wholesalers and processors"

Dutch green bean season has started

At Kamps Sperziebonen the Dutch green bean season has officially started, "Due to the cool spring weather, the growth of the Dutch green beans has not been as smooth as last year. In recent weeks the summer weather has really started and the beans have needed a lot of watering, which has caused the green beans to go through a growth spurt. The first Dutch green beans have been picked and the season has officially started," says Marius Kamps.

"The results of the season are very dependent on the weather conditions. Just as every other year we will have to be flexible so we can respond appropriately to the weather. As a growing company we remain heavily dependent on the weather conditions, regardless of what else is happening in the market. The cool spring weather and the heat wave at the end of June/beginning of July have caused growth to be different than expected," says the grower.

Kamps has more than 40 years of knowledge and experience with green beans. At Kamps, green beans are grown around Ottersum in North Limburg, in the Netherlands and also in Germany for the German market. Additionally, green beans are grown in Egypt and Senegal for the import season. From the start of the company, in 1970, all the cultivation, harvesting and processing activities have been carried out entirely 'in-house'. The green beans are grown and processed under strict requirements and packed in crates, coated boxes and flow packs according to the customers' requirements. Retailers, wholesalers and processors are among their clientele.

"Green bean consumption is fairly stable, and even rising slightly. Green beans are being used more and more in all kinds of meals. They are healthy and full of taste. At Kamps, we ensure that the customers have the green beans in the desired packaging or containers within one day after the harvest. In this way we can contribute to preserving the freshness and flavor of the beans," says Marius.
