Record yield of strawberries in Brandenburg in 2015

This year’s strawberry harvest is 9 percent higher than last year, with 9180 kg per hectare, according to preliminary information. This is the highest yield per hectare since 1991. This excellent result is due to, amongst other factors, successful irrigation. The sometimes cool and dry weather caused large fluctuations in the yield per hectare. It fluctuated between 500 and more than 19000 per hectare.

Based on previous statements by the strawberry growers in Brandenburg the strawberries are harvested from an area of 385 hectare. The Berlin-Brandenburg Office of Statistics estimates the yield in 2015 in 3,500 metric tons. That is an increase of 4 percent compared to 2014.

The cultivation of strawberries is still mainly in the districts of Spree-Neisse and Potsdam-Mittelmark.

The complete results on the strawberry harvest are not available until the end of the year.
