South Tyrol: Proper cauliflower harvest despite heat

The harvest of cauliflowers with the mark of quality “Quality South Tyrol” has started and everything points to a good yield. The heat wave in July and the cool weather in May has left the cauliflowers unharmed.

The farmers are glad about the excellent quality and the 20% increase in the yield compared to last year. Cauliflowers will be harvested until mid September.

Largest growing area is Vinschgau
Cauliflowers with the mark of quality “Quality South Tyrol” are mainly grown in Vinschgau and traded by the Association of Vinschgau fruit and vegetable producers. The association of Vinschgau fruit and vegetable is a market leader in Italy. Reinhard Ladurner, sales manager, confirms: “The brand name Vinschgau and the mark of quality South Tyrol are very well received by consumers. Both guarantee the high quality of our vegetables and constant independent controls.”

Main market in Italy
As early as the end of May, the summer cauliflowers in South Tyrol are planted under a cover. The cauliflower is sold at wholesale markets and modern supermarkets. The main market, besides South Tyrol, is the rest of Italy. From Veneto and Lombardy to Campania and Sicily consumers appreciate the cauliflower with the seal “South Tyrol” for its outstanding quality. It reaches the consumers as fresh as the day it was harvested and has an excellent flavour due to the slow maturing in the mountains of South Tyrol.
