De Ruiter's new tomato gets new name

Many of you already know the newest tomato on the vine tomato in the medium segment of De Ruiter under the number DR1398TH.

From now DR1398TH has an official name: Sevance

This week some team members of De Ruiter tomato team launched the name together with two growers from the beginning, namely Ben van de Wel (2 hectares) and Alex van Vliet (1.5 ha). This moment was celebrated by uncorking a bottle of champagne and handing over a Sevance cake.

The name Sevance was carefully chosen and fits perfectly in the line of illustrious predecessors like Elegance, Plaisance and Tourance, all proven varieties in Northern Europe.

The first three letters of Sevance refer to the fact that Sevance has also the possibility to harvest by 7 fruits to the truss.

Additionally Sevance also has 7 "benefits":

• Excellent production

• 12 months a year available via artificial light- , traditional- and autumn crop.

• Extra sustainability due to IR Powdery mildew resistance

• Flexible truss pruning (5,6 or 7 fruits per truss)

• Beautiful red color, externally and internally

• Very good taste

• Average fruit weight to 125 grams

Both growers are very satisfied with Sevance because of the labor friendliness and the good feedback out of the chain (Sevance is very strong against yellow calyx) . The tomato team is also very enthusiastic about the market response and acceptance of Sevance.
