Initial assessment of hailstorms

Austria: Massive damage of 5.3 mln Euro

Carinthia was severely affected by hailstorms with heavy rains and gale-force winds last week. And parts of Styria and the south of Burgenland have significantly been affected.

Extent of the damage:

Carinthia
Districts: Klagenfurt-Land, Villach-Land, Hermagor, Feldkirchen
Acreage: 9,000 hectares
Affected cultures: horticulture, fruit, cereal, corn, soy, grassland
Damage for the agriculture: 3.5 mln Euro

Styria 
Districts: Weiz, Leibnitz, Leoben, Mur
Acreage: 3,500 hectares
Affected cultures: cereal, corn, wine, fruit, grassland
Damage for the agriculture: 1.4 mln Euro

Burgenland
District: Oberwart
Acreage: 4,000 hectare
Affected cultures: cereal, corn, wine, rape, soy
Damage for the agriculture: 400,000 Euro

After the first surveys by the Austrian Hail Insurance the total damage is estimated around 5.3 million Euro and 16,500 hectares agricultural area is affected.
The experts begin immediately with the damage assessment in order to ensure an efficient handling of the claims. “Professional damage assessments by our local experts and rapid payments to farmers have our priority,” states Dr. Kurt Weinberger CEO of Austrian Hail Insurance.
