Nacho Ballester and Mosses Asturias have been focusing on the im- and export of organic fruits and vegetables with Maua Organics for two months now. "Bananas will be our main product, but we also import avocados, mangos and limes. In the winter season we will start Spanish citrus and hope to extend this into a year round citrus package next year. We focus purely on organic products," says Nacho, who grew up in Rotterdam and is from a family of citrus importers and exporters.

He believes in the future of organic products. "Organic is a growing market. Especially in northern Europe consumers are becoming more and more concious of healthy eating, environmentally friendly cultivation systems and improving the conditions of growers in poor countries."
"I have now visited organic suppliers in Mexico and the Dominican Republic and will be going to Peru soon. We are getting good reactions from the market. We offer organic bananas all year round. We also have stonefruit, lemons and blueberries from Spain and apples and pears from Sargentini at the moment. This week we will be loading the first avocados and limes from Mexico and the first ginger from Peru," says Nacho.
The experienced trader isn't lacking in plans for the future. "We will also start exotics such as baby bananas, carambolas and granadillas and will also offer dried exotic fruit. At the moment northern Europe is our main sales area with Germany, Scandinavia and Switzerland as our most important countries. But we also want to export European product, both Dutch and Spanish, to Canada and the US."
