Expensive bananas in Cologne

The BLE newsletter 27/2015 shows that the average price of premium bananas in week 27 has reached the same level as last year. The average price was about €141 per 100 kilo. For other brands the average price was around €105 per 100 kilo.

A price difference between the different markets is noticeable if you look at the price trends in 2015. The five largest wholesale markets have been compared. The premium bananas and other bananas were the dearest over the entire year on the wholesale market in Cologne.
The bananas on the Munich market are the cheapest.

Germany imported a total of 1,385,255 metric tons of bananas (without plantains) in 2014. The most important importing country is Ecuador. In the past year 540,218 metric tons of bananas arrived from the country in Latin America, this equals €258,262. The second country is Colombia with 355,087 metric tons.
