Peru: Avocado shipments to Spain $10.5 million Q1

The Commercial Office of Peru in Madrid (OCEX Madrid) reported that avocado exports to Spain between January and April 2015 amounted to $10.5 million, i.e. 8% more than in the same period last year.

Exports of frozen avocado stood out as they increased by 219% when compared to the same period of 2014, and amounted to $68,600 dollars.

It's worth noting that frozen Hass avocado has a high demand in Spain, especially in the Hotel, Restaurant, and Catering sector (HORECA), as a result of the commercial strategy organized by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) through OCEX Madrid.

In an interview to El PaĆs, Magali Silva, head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), highlighted the growth that Peruvian agricultural exports have had in recent years and the favorable conditions offered by Peru for Spanish investments.

Minister Silva is in Spain complying with an agenda of activities that includes her participation in the Business Meeting Spain-Peru, in which she made a presentation called Peru: Business Opportunities. She also participated in the forum, Peru in the Future, organized by the Prisa Group.

As part of the official activities, minister Silva and President Ollanta Humala attended the gala dinner organized by the kings of Spain in the Royal Palace, which was attended by important political, economical, and cultural personalities.

Exotic fruits
On the other hand, OCEX Madrid stated that another product that has grown in exports in the first quarter of this year is blueberry. In this period, shipments of this fruit amounted to $41,890 dollars, i.e. 426% more than in the same period of 2014.

The promotions conducted by OCEX Madrid regarding the benefits of blueberry and the inclination of Spanish consumers for exotic fruits have increased the domestic market's demand for this fruit.
