Processed tomato production to reach 175,000 tons in Tunisia

Production of tomatoes grown for processing is expected to reach 175,000 tons this year. Despite this record production there are many problems, such as high production costs, lack of production contracts between producers and the industry and a lack of manual labour.

Vegetable production management within the CRDA is calling for protection for farmers within professional structures - including cooperatives, to help them to commercialise their production under the best possible conditions. They are also suggesting a production contract between producers and industrials to maintain rights for both sides and favour places that respect quality regulations.
