Successful kick off in Russia for DLG Field Days
Organizing and running the Field Days was a challenge, in particular because of the weather conditions: While the fields were still under snow and snowmelt at the end of April, in June both the 150 Russian and international exhibitors firms and the 6,300 visitors coming from Russia as well as Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkey and Iran had to cope with a torrid heat wave.
The International Field Days were opened by Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan; Petr Chekmarev, Director of the Department of Plant Cultivation, Chemistry and Plant Protection at the Russian Ministry of Agriculture and Peter Grothues, Managing Director of the Exhibitions Department at DLG e.V. The conference program was jointly organized by the experts of DLG and the Republic of Tatarstan and comprised besides a symposium on “Entrepreneurship as a means to Russia’s self-sufficiency”, round table discussions, machinery demonstrations and comparisons of cultivation techniques. Some 800 national and international experts from politics, business and science took part in the symposium listening to high-ranking speakers debating the competitiveness of Russian agriculture, the development of the milk and meat sector, the demand of skilled workers and other topics. The exchange of knowledge and experience was by no means the most important aspect of this three-day-event.
The next “International Field Days in the Volga Region” are scheduled for July 2016.
