US (NJ): Zucchini supplies light
Adverse weather has cut down supplies of zucchini coming out of New Jersey. Supplies from other squash-producing states are also light.
“Volumes right now are way off from normal levels,” said Mike DeLeo of Dandrea Produce in Vineland, New Jersey. “We should have ten times the amount of zucchini we have right now.” He pointed to a combination of hot weather and rain that has disrupted production. That has resulted in low volumes and erratic prices.
“It's not just in New Jersey, but also in surrounding states,” said DeLeo. “It's unpredictable from day to day because it's a small market with not a lot of product. So if you need zucchini, you try to bring it from other states.
Supplies also light elsewhere
Buyers can also find zucchini coming from Michigan, South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia, but volumes out of those states still trail current demand. On July 7, prices for a carton were between $12.00 and $14.85 out of Michigan and between $12.00 and $14.00 out of South Carolina.
