Conrad Rijnhout, Verdi Import: no more summer dip due to pressing machines

Few pressing oranges on the market

The first containers of South African pressing oranges have arrived at Verdi Import. "The Moroccan season is ending although we will continue for a few weeks, but there are few pressing oranges on the market in total. At the moment the prices are at a high level, up to 13.50 Euro for the smaller sizes. I'm positive. The production in South Africa is about equal but not much has been loaded. The large amounts of pressing oranges is still to come. The big question is what volumes will be sent to Europe. My first estimation is that people here and in South Africa will be careful," says Conrad Rijnhout.

"The demand is very good. More and more retailers are pressing oranges in their shops. In the past you would sometimes sell very little after August, but over the last few years the sales of pressing oranges in the summer has been going well and there has hardly been a real dip," says the importer. The number of Valencia oranges from South Africa will slowly increase. The quality of the oranges is reasonable, although the first arrivals are a bit light.
