Enough grapes available

Grape prices put customers off

The German grape trade competition is fierce. Increased supply from all over the world and high prices in the supermarkets cause problems for the traders. “It is a difficult situation at the moment,” states a large German importer from Düsseldorf, “The grape trade isn't going too well. We imagined the season a bit different.”

The importer, with headquarters in Düsseldorf, imports grapes from Egypt. The quality of the grapes is excellent. He explains: “Although the yield is lower than usual this year, the quality of our produce is good. We cannot complain about that.”

Prices deter customers
Not only the weather, the prices too influence the customer’s demand. The businessman states: “We have an abundance of grapes to meet our customers demand. Regrettably the current prices deter the customers. Due to the high prices in the supermarket customers rather choose other fruit.”

“These situations are challenges”
The lack of advertising in the supermarkets lately has influenced the disinterest of the customers. “And supermarkets cannot advertise grapes with these prices. There is no way to attract the buyers.” An unsatisfactory situation for the importer: “It is not easy but, we will survive. These situations are challenges, that our trade will tackle.”
