EDEKA Nord keeps on growing

EDEKA Nord achieved a sales increase of 3.4% in fiscal year 2014. The turnover increased by 4.4% to 2587.8 million Euro. One reason for this success is expansion. 24 new stores opened and 20 stores expanded. The sales area increased by 3.4% to a total of 763,000 square meters.

EDEKA Nord supplies 722 stores, those stores have an average sales area of 1,057 square meters and net income of € 27,240,000. At the end of 2014 30 stores, over 130,000 square meters of sales area, were under EDEKA management. The rebuild of 16 Marktkauf centres has been completed. The total amount of the investments in 2014 amounted to 10.0 million Euro (2013: 20.6 million Euro). The revenue amounted to 447.4 million Euro in 2014 (2013: 446.3 million Euro). The most important task for the future will be to meet the customer’s demands. However it is not only about satisfying the customer’s demand, but also about the shopping experience, range, variety, service and customer satisfaction. For instance by implementing technical developments such as self-checkouts or Mobile Payment. The range has been expanded through innovations such as "EDEKA deli" and the own brand "EDEKA Bio Vegan".

The EDEKA Nord brand „Unsere Heimat – echt & gut“ (Our home, authentic & good) combines the sustainable use of natural resources with a high quality. The central warehouse in Zarrentin expanded and was modified to a modern logistics centre. The EDEKA Nord meat packing plant had a turnover of 283.0 million Euro (2013: 278.8 million Euro).

The product quality has improved significantly. EDEKA Nord is an attractive employer and educator in north Germany. The recruitment and training of new employees and the continued education of the current workforce will receive the necessary attention.
