Positive balance of Konsum Dresden thanks to large investments

The consumer’s cooperative Konsum Dresden survived the pressure of the competition and closed the 2014 balance with a good result.

An increasing number of branches of supermarket chains open in Dresden. Especially on the high street's supermarkets and discounters open their doors; the competition is growing, but the consumer's purchasing power drops. With 1.7 square meters of supermarket per head, the area in Dresden is above the national average. In recent years, Konsum Dresden has worked constantly to improve and innovate, and have it successfully.

The figures from 2014 show that the Dresden-based company, founded in 1888, with 29,213 square meters of retail area distributed over 34 stores were able to claim a position in the retail landscape. The gross sales in 2014 increased compared to the previous year with almost 900,000 Euros. The sales performance has increased in 2014 with 0.8 percent. As a result, a net income of 506,100 Euros was generated in the financial year 2014. "And of course our 22,475 members benefited," stated the CEO Gunther Seifert.

The new Centrum Galerie, the largest investment of the past year
These positive results are the result of the many investments made in the past two years. The investments of 2.9 million Euros in 2013 and 2.2 million euros in 2014 have paid off. The refurbishment of the supermarket in the Centrum Galerie, opened October 2014, is with 1.5 million Euros one of the largest investments in the past year.

Since 2013, delivery is one of the services offered by KONSUM - with increasing success. Consumers can hand in their purchases after the checkout and their shopping will be delivered at their home for 5 Euros. The delivery can be made between 10.00 und 20.00 o’clock from Monday to Friday in two-hour slots. "Companies, professionals and older people love this service," explains Roger Ulke, board member of the Konsum Dresden.

The Konsum Dresden has focused on the support and promotion of high quality regional products. Around one third of the total turnover was achieved with products from Saxony.

Sustainability
"We consider sustainability is a major challenge. We have done much to advance our sustainability strategy in the last year," says Seifert. "For example, we have enormously reduced our CO2 emissions and the production of the polluting greenhouse gasses decreased with a total of 17 percent."

The consolidation process that started in 2012 is continued successfully. The sales performance increased by 0.8 percent compared to 2014. The financial auditors state that Konsum Dresden has a good asset position and improved the financial position and results. As a result, the net income for the financial year 2014 is 506,100 Euros.

The equity ratio grew to 49.8 percent and has risen with 3.9 percent compared to the previous year.
