On 18 June, the Second International Blueberry Seminar was held at the JW Marriott Hotel in the Peruvian city of Lima, organised by AGQ Labs and Blueberries Consulting. The end result of this important seminar was a resounding success due to the great professionalism of the speakers and attendees. Its nearly 300 participants had the opportunity to discuss the technical challenges and prospects of the blueberry sector in Peru.
Many of the experts in attendance concluded that the Peruvian blueberry industry is consolidated, but now needs a greater focus on international promotion to effectively penetrate foreign markets and become a global reference, joining countries such as Mexico, Argentina and Chile in markets as demanding as Europe or the United States.
The significant commitment from the organisers to the crop in Peru is noteworthy, pointing out the importance of addressing the technical challenges and of finding solutions for the proper development of blueberries in the country, which has a very suitable climate for this crop and will reach a production of 2,500 tonnes of berries in 2015.
The general opinion of the speakers and the audience was that such a high level seminar had never been organised in Peru and praised the organisers, who were present throughout the event.
