Pink garlic harvest to begin end of June in France

At the last pink garlic general assembly, the theme “Vulnerable zones and pink garlic” was discussed. The aim was to give information about the new rules on the nitrate guidelines. Pink garlic is planted between the 1st December and the 31st January in compliance with Label Rouge PGI guidelines. Farmers are currently removing the flowering stems and expect to harvest at the end of June. The garlic will then be commercialised a month later as it needs to be dried and peeled to the last layer. Certified pink garlic acreage has increased by 30 hectares compared to last year, reaching 400 hectares in total. Total commercialised weight reaches 624 tons and has increased, but is still under the average of the last 10 years. 161 farmers produce Label Rouge and PGI pink Lautrec garlic.
