Germany: Positive price pressure in improved apple market
Contrary to expectations, the apple market made a complete turnaround in March and April. The managing director of Elbe-Obst VG describes the situation; "The Polish have been able to sell their goods faster than expected, which has lead to positive price pressure. This has enabled the prices to rise almost weekly”.
“Almost no money was made during the first eight months and suddenly new chances are arising. Nevertheless, one needs to watch what kind of price is feasible for consumers.”
“Producers see light on the horizon”
Altogether, Frank Döscher evaluates the situation as more positive than half a year ago. “Of course, the development is gratifying, but it is also difficult. We were tuned to a different situation. It is tricky to make a 180 degree turn overnight. This also applies to producers, who now have positive prospects again.”
“No-one could have foreseen this development”
“If the needs of the consumers do not change, this campaign will end according to plan,” Frank Döscher explains. “No-one could have foreseen this development.”
