Worker found close to death in fruit container
A co-worker at a fruit processing plant in eastern Styria, Austria was saved in the nick of time by his colleagues on Tuesday. The fermentation gasses in the container almost caused the man to suffocate.
The 37-year-old worker from Romania climbed for an unknown reason in a meter high fruit container that was transported on a conveyor belt.
Unconscious in container
Colleagues noticed that the lid of the container was closed, they stopped the conveyor belt and discovered the 37-year-old who was already unconscious and almost suffocated. They pulled him out of the container and provided first aid. The man was taken to the intensive care unit of the Weiz hospital, thanks to the fast reaction he is out of danger.
According to investigations there could have been remnants of nitrogen and other gasses, that are by-products of fruit fermentation, in the container.
