Main Spanish companies present at AECOC Congress

More than 300 executives from the most important horticultural companies in Spain attended the 17th edition of the AECOC Congress of fruits and vegetables, held at the Palacio de Congresos in Valencia on 16 and 17 June.

FRUIT LOGISTICA has collaborated in the event's organisation by sponsoring the international block of conferences that has taken place at the start of the second day. This support from the industry's leading trade fair has aimed to give participants a more global view, inviting personalities with a wide international experience and vision in the fields of marketing and retail.

Chris White, General Director of the publishing house Global Market Intelligence, has highlighted the needs and preferences of today's consumers, with a special emphasis on the lifestyle changes in Europe and Asia.

"As a consumer, I know we don't eat in the same way we did in the past," he stated. The need to surprise consumers through investments in innovation is one of the points where White placed the most emphasis. "We must ensure that supermarkets invest for the sake of consumers. [...] Information at the point of sale is very scarce and this does not help consumers [...]. We must guide buyers," he highlighted.

After her speech, the block's moderator, Silvia de Juanes, FRUIT LOGISTICA communications director for Spain and Latin America, gave the floor to Bianca Casertano, retailing analyst at the international consultancy Planet Retail. Casertano explored current retail trends in Western Europe, predicting short-term changes and pointing out the differences between different countries.

The block of conferences sponsored by FRUIT LOGISTICA has been one of the highlights of the Congress, generating great excitement among attendees and sparking a debate on the future of the sector.

With this collaboration, FRUIT LOGISTICA has once again shown its involvement with innovation in the fruit and vegetable sector, a field in which it has placed special emphasis on its latest editions by offering free lectures on the Tech Stage and Future Lab programmes, as well as special platforms for product launches.

The alliance with AECOC responds to this commitment to innovation
AECOC, the Association of Large Consumption Companies, brings together more than 26,000 Spanish firms with the mission of improving the competitiveness of the entire value chain by sharing solutions, standards and knowledge that can help in making it more efficient and sustainable, providing greater value to consumers.

The fresh sector's whole international value chain will meet again next year, between 3 and 5 February, in Berlin.
