Dominican Republic: Drought affects mango production

More than 50 percent of the mango varieties that are on display at the Mango Fair could not be presented to the public.

Only 50 of the more than 100 varieties that were presented in the past years could be observed in the event, which opened last Thursday.

The activity mobilized people from different parts of the country, who arrived early in the morning to enjoy the fruit.

The Mango Fair has become a tradition for the Dominicans. It has been held in Bani since 2005, as this town is considered the capital of mango because it has the greatest production of mangoes.

Despite the low presence of people in the first three days of the fair, merchants ensured that the flow of visitors had improved on Sunday, as they wanted to see the fair before it closed.
