Peru: Sierra Exportadora and the Agricultural Society of Arequipa signed agreement to improve production chains

Sierra Exportadora, a body attached to the Ministry of agriculture and irrigation (Minagri), signed an agreement of inter-institutional cooperation with the Agricultural Society of Arequipa (SADA), in order to establish the development of investment projects and improvements in the production chains in the region.

This agreement was signed during the I Agricultural Congress of the Region of Arequipa, which was organized by the SADA and was held on June 10, 11 and 12 at the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín (UNSA). The Congress was directed to agricultural producers, exporters, University students and professional.

Through this agreement, both institutions will join efforts, skills and competences, exchange knowledge and experiences, as well as coordinate joint initiatives that contribute to the economic and social development of the Peruvian highlands, in accordance with their respective policies and institutional priorities.

During this activity, the President of Sierra Exportadora, Alfonso Velasquez Tuesta, said that 17 business plans were executed in the Arequipa region in 2014, generating 42 million new Peruvian soles, and that they expected to increase the business plans to 25 this year and sales of 55 million new Peruvian soles.

He said that, through these plans, the region had been working in the production of cheese and derivatives, avocado Hass, Andean grains, as well as high-Andean livestock, trout, berries and oregano.

It is worth mentioning that the President of the SADA, Justo Diaz Cano, delivered the Diploma of Honour of the City, on behalf of the Provincial Municipality of Arequipa, to the President of Sierra Exportadora, Alfonso Velasquez, in recognition to his outstanding participation in the I Agricultural Congress of the Region and to his important career in the professional field.

The President of Frealpaca, Freddy Quispe, the head of Agroideas of the Minagri, Julio Salazar, and the head of the National Administrative Authority Water I Caplina Ocoña, Ronald Fernández, also participated in the Congress.
