US (NC): Mid-Atlantic zucchini supplies could pick up

As the Georgia zucchini season winds down, supplies from the mid-Atlantic region could pick up. Supplies are adequate right now, and prices are reported as good.

“Supplies are adequate, but prices aren't cheap,” said Jimmy Carter of Parker Farms in Virginia. On June 12, prices for a carton of zucchini were $7.00 and $8.35 out of Eastern North Carolina, and prices out of South Georgia were between $8.35 and $9.85 for a carton. Weather out of the mid-Atlantic region has been cool in the past weeks, but production could pick up if temperatures increase.

“Since Georgia is wrapping up, the market will find a comfortable trading area where it's at,” said Carter. “I think the market will level out in the next two or three weeks, and I don't see a major swing in prices.”
