Wim Waterman, Waterman Onions:

"Available onions in hands of real diehards"

The onion season is coming to a close. Yet according to buyer Wim Waterman of Waterman Onions there are still some parties available. "You never buy the last ones, but the end is in sight. The onions are running out. This isn't a problem this year. But the onions that are still available are in the hands of the real diehards, who are going to extremes. The quality varies, but the good parties are really good."

"The market went up quite quickly a few weeks ago, but also went down again rapidly. Now the market is quite stable again. Growers that wanted to have 25 cents now want 20, although the market is actually smaller," continues Wim. Although the dry weather is affecting the growth of the seeding onions, the buyer isn't disappointed with the way nature is recovering. "But you have to be in the south west for the first seeding onions. We are between the long storage now and will continue with the old harvest for as long as we can."
