Potatoes KW 22/2015
Focus on German potatoes
In the week after Pentecost, week 22, 25- 31 May, the customers’ interests in early potatoes from Germany increased, mostly due to the larger sizes and better quality. This information is stated in the BLE market report of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food (BLE). The availability increased considerably; therefore German new potatoes are available in all the wholesalers.
Price quotations for the German potatoes remained at a similar level as the imported potatoes from Southern Europe, resulting in a rise in sales. The sales dropped noticeably if the quality, price and differences in sizes were too large .
Supply and demand are in balance
In general, supply and demand are in balance, which resulted in no major price fluctuations. Occasionally the prices decreased due to the sharp increase in availability or stagnating interest.
The products had a solid quality and a steady demand. However there were barely price changes although the stock continued to sell.
