Italy: new grading 8 lane Aweta Calistar for summer fruit season

Agricultural firm Il Frutteto, located in Cesena (Italy), is ready to start its second peaches/nectarines season making use of a new grading 8 lane Aweta Calistar for processing kiwi, nectarines, peaches and plums. The plant was designed by Aweta for maximum flexibility: it allows to work in pre-calibration, direct packaging or both simultaneously.

The most important feature of the processing line is the sizer 'Calistar' with patented grippers, besides being the utmost delicate with fruit, it also has the advantage of drastically reducing maintenance costs and allowing easy and better cleaning procedures compared to conventional sorters.

All this, thanks to Calistar the only fruit grader to have all the electronic and mechanical components.

Of great interest are the sensors for quality sorting namely the optical system Power Vision 3D to detect fruit color, shape and external defects, and the external quality sensor Inscan, to detect, product internal quality i.e. Brix level (sugar content), consistency, ripeness, firmness , and pulp coloration (also in kiwi).

The system installed at Il Frutteto has been engineered and developed by Aweta to meet the operational needs of the customer and entered into operation by Aweta skilled installation and start up team .

Mr. Patrizio Neri, vice president and sales manager of Il Frutteto, stated: "The innovative elements of this grading/packing line are particularly interesting and useful. The transport of fruit by grippers gives a great help to our sanitation efforts: impurities simply fall off the line".

"Electronic quality sorting allows, to speed up processing time, to rationalize sorting staff ensuring flexibility and finally to increase final sorting results: elimination of defect fruit to ensure preservation and rentability. These are all elements that make the difference, also considering the economic and commercial point of view "

"In brief - said Mr. Neri – we have experienced that the system is a very intelligent and successful combination of mechanics and electronics that ensures high quality results. Revealed to be very useful to our company, the possibility to obtain, at the end of the processing line, either packaged products ready for delivery or, alternatively, calibrated products in bins to be stored in cold rooms, or both at a time, depending on sales orders. From a mere quantitative point of view, the plant can process about 18 tons of peaches or nectarines and about 13 tons of kiwi, allowing us to broaden our offer to the market. "

Aweta Sistemi SpA, based in Cesena, is part of the international group Aweta Grading and Packing with headquarter in Nootdorp, the Netherlands, and offices around the world. Aweta is characterized by professionalism, organizational skills and customization based on the needs of each client company. Mr. Neri finally added "People of quality focus on quality".
