In the final stretch

Price of Andalusian orange doubles that of 2014

In the last week of May the average price of the Andalusian orange was 0.31 Euro/kilo at its origin.

Average prices at origin of the oranges harvested in the autonomous community of Andalusia in the final stretch of the campaign, especially those of the Valencia Late variety, have doubled what they were in the same period last year.

According to the latest report of the Observatory of Prices and Markets of the Board of Andalusia the average price of this product in the last week of May was 0.31 Euro/kilo, twice of what it recorded in the previous year when the kilo barely reached 0.15 Euro per kilo.

According to the report, the price increase at this stage of the campaign is mainly due to the decrease in supply of citrus in the markets.

The price of this orange variety, once it comes out of the handling facilities, has also increased when compared to last year's campaign.

In late May, prices spiked up to nearly 0.63 Euro/kilo on average, while they were only 0.45 Euro/kilo in 2014. This year’s prices are closer to the 2013 campaign the average cost of a kilo of oranges amounted to 0.52 Euro.

By the end of May, an unpacked kilo of oranges was sold for 0.58 Euro, a one kilo bag for 0.65 Euro, and a one kilo box for 0.70 Euro.
