Argentina: More authorized citrus packaging rooms by Senasa

The National Health Service and Food Quality (Senasa) inspected and enabled, in the first stage of this year, 94 rooms for processing citrus packing, both for export and for the domestic market, in the province of Corrientes.

Since 2012, there has been an increase of over 48% in the number of such establishments authorized by the Senasa, which are located in major production areas of the province of Corrientes.

Senasa’s authorization ensures that the packaging rooms comply with regulations and raises the health, safety, and quality standards of citrus in the province, which currently reach markets with the highest international standards.

The operation of these new authorized packing facilities translates directly into more fruit with added value at its origin, about 150 new direct jobs and many indirect ones, in the transportation, packaging and other sectors that make up the citrus chain.

The Senasa Corrientes-Misiones Regional Center conducts operational actions to strengthen and support the sector, such as inspections and trainings on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for packaging of fruits and vegetables.
