It reduces the duration of procedures by 80%

New customs system Ecuador and Colombia now operational

According to the Andes news agency, the new International Transit of Goods (TIM) customs system, on the border between Ecuador and Colombia, became operational after the two countries formalized the agreement last week.

Time management at the border will go from six hours to three minutes with the unification of the systems between Ecuador and Colombia.

The system, which will function as a registration process, will streamline trade and reduce transaction time. However, according to the deputy director of operations of the National Customs Service of Ecuador (Senae), the traditional systems, such as Ecuapass, will continue to work because this new system will interconnect both countries to achieve greater efficiency.

The time that the transporters and the businessmen spend completing formalities to move their products across the border may be reduced by 80%, from 6 hours to 3 minutes. The documents will also pass through a single customs control.

Claudia Gaviria, director of Customs administration of the Directorate of National Taxes and Customs of Colombia (DIAN), said that every country had its own documents to transport goods from one country to another, but that the TIM would allow them to unify said documents.
