Green and sweet
In recent years there has been a lot of progress in the Ghanaian agriculture and horticulture sector. "In Ghana we have invested in the education of staff, in construction and in dozens of greenhouses with the EnviroDome technology so that we can deliver diverse products year round, such as these pineapples," he says enthusiastically. "The pineapples are green on the outside, but ripe on the inside. They are white on the inside and very sweet. In addition, these pineapples have a high vitamin C content. The products are also fair trade and GlobalGAP certified."

Enviro Fruit
The pineapples come from various growers in Ghana. Many of them use the of EnviroDome, a plastic dome. The crops will be harvested in late August. "This season we expect a harvest of more than one million tons," says Edward. "We have already sent trial shipments to the U.S., various European countries and the Middle East." The pineapples are being marketed under the brand 'Enviro Fruit'. Other fruits and vegetables are sold under this brand also, such as passion fruit, peppers, okra and papaya." Right now they are very busy promoting the new pineapple. "So far we have been getting enthusiastic reactions, and we are positive about this season," says Edward.
