"Sky-supermarket and Elbe-Obst involved with "Apples for the kids" in Nordersstedt"

The kids in the childcare "Streifenentenclub" in Norderstedt know that apples are healthy. And since the visit to the Sky-supermarket in Norderstedt they find the small vitamin bombs really tasty. The childcare "Streifenentenclub" is one of five facilities that won the action "Apples for the kids" by Elbe-Obst and "Unser Norden", the regional label of Sky-supermarket; the price exists of a crate of apples every week for three months.

Sabrina, Fiona, Emily, Emilia and Lena (left to right) Are happy with the fresh "Unser Norden" apples, that they get for free for twelve weeks of the Sky-supermarket in Norderstedt.

Johannes Harders, store manager of the Sky-supermarket at the Segeberg Chaussee, and Patrick Suhr, fruit grower and Elbe-Obst member, handed the first crate to the children in the Sky-market.

Sabrina, Fiona, Lena, Emilia and Emily looked especially happy when they got a fresh apple from Patrick Suhr in their hands. The apple was immediately checked for taste and found to be delicious. "I was surprised by the curiosity and exploring nature of small children. Without shyness they bit into the apple and experienced the taste," states the Sky-supermarket manager Johannes Harders about his smallest customers. Until the end of February, educator Susanne Braun and the kids can pick up the box with the delicious and fresh "Unser Norden" apples every week at Johannes Harders’ Sky-market.

A commitment to healthy eating
With the action "Apples for the kids" Elbe-Obst and the regional brand "Unser Norden", got involved with the childcare and daycare centres in Northern Germany. They organized a raffle with apples as a price for five facilities. The aim is to promote healthy eating habits in children and let children in the region realize that apples are a healthy snack between meals. The action started in September 2014. More than 100 childcare centres and nurseries were enthusiastic and tried to get a completely crammed apple crate for twelve weeks at the closest Sky-Supermarket.

"Apples for the Kids" action gets a second round in 2015
This action was very well received by all participants therefore the Sky-supermarket will cooperate with Elbe-Obst to repeat this action in February. Institutions can apply from mid-January 2015 for the "Apples for the kids". For more information, check the monthly customer magazine "mein coop magazin".
