10th Australian Mango Conference

'Great time to be a mango grower in AU'

‘It’s a great time to be a mango grower in Australia.’

That was the message from the Federal Minister for Agriculture, the Hon. Barnaby Joyce, to delegates as they attended Day One of the 10th Australian Mango Conference at Skycity Casino in Darwin. Although unable to attend in person, Minister Joyce wished delegates the best for the future in a letter, read to the crowd by Gavin Scurr, Chairman of conference hosts the Australian Mango Industry Association.

Day Two began this morning, with the NT Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries, the Hon Westra van Holthe, a special guest on the panel ‘Collaborating to take advantage of opportunities’.

AMIA Chairman Gavin Scurr said that the support of Minister Joyce and Minister Westra van Holthe highlight the strong relationship between the mango industry and all levels of government as the industry moves to create a strong and profitable future.

“The first day of the conference celebrated the industry’s successes. Having key Australian retailers attend and speak to delegates during Day One the conference shows our progress as an industry. I am honoured that Woolworths are Platinum Sponsors of the 10th Australian Mango Conference and will be hosting the Gala Dinner this evening,” he said.

The Gala Dinner will follow Day Two of the conference, which will have an export focus, demonstrating that collaboration will be the key to unlocking export potential.

“Mango exports grew by 20% this season when compared to last season. The first ever Australian mangoes were sold to US consumers and exports to Korea doubled when compared to the previous season. The success in these markets and of the export program overall will be celebrated during Day Two the conference, as we discuss the vast of opportunities available to the entire industry,” Mr Scurr said.

The Field Day component of the Conference will be held at Arnhem Mangoes, Lambells Lagoon, on Thursday 28th May from 9am.
