Supplies of Californian Valencia oranges good

For Californian growers and shippers supplies of Valencia oranges are good as the season has been well underway for a few weeks. “Demand is very similar to Navel oranges and prices have remained steady,” states Charles Duby, of Sequoia Orange. “However, as with any season it’s difficult to predict what the coming months can bring.”

Sequoia Orange sells to Korea, Japan, Canada, and throughout the United States. All of Sequoia Orange’s supply comes from the Kern and Tulare counties located within the Central Valley. At the current time of year, the only competition comes from the Valencia market in Florida as it is less expensive to ship fruit out of Florida to an East Coast destination.

Although competition can pose a threat, the biggest challenge is growing the best fruit possible while facing a severe drought. “Water management is a daily issue and concern for us,” explains Duby, “but we continue to take each day as it comes. We have fruit to be picked, packed, and sold. And that is exactly what we will continue to do."
