COEXPHAL and ECOHAL start merger negotiations

The Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producer Organisations of Almeria, COEXPHAL, and the Andalusian Federation of Fruit and Vegetable Entrepreneur Associations, ECOHAL, have started a merger negotiation process.

The resulting organisation would become one of the largest entities in the European fruit and vegetable sector, allowing for all horticultural companies in Almeria and Granada to work together, defending the same interests. They would represent nearly 100% of the production and marketing of protected agriculture in the provinces of Almeria and Granada, and close to 75% of the Spanish fruit and vegetable sector.

Overall, the organisation resulting from the merger of COEXPHAL and ECOHAL would be worth more than 2,400 million Euro and account for about 3.5 million tonnes of fruits and vegetables, with 40,800 hectares run by 24,500 producers who employ 60,000 people.

Coexphal in figures
Coexphal, founded in 1977, currently consists of 58 fruit and vegetable companies accounting for 70% of Almeria's fruit and vegetable exports and 65% of the production in the province of Almeria. Companies and cooperatives associated to COEXPHAL produce 2 million tonnes annually, with a turnover of 1,576 million Euro and employ 19,000 workers. It markets the production of 9,500 associated producers who cultivate 20,800 hectares.

Ecohal in figures
Ecohal consists of 19 companies in the provinces of Almeria and Granada, which produce 1.5 million tonnes per year, generating a turnover of 850 million Euro. It has 15,000 associated growers cultivating 20,000 hectares. It is worth noting that Ecohal controls 7,000 hectares of subtropical crops.
