German apples dominate the market, increase in offer of German lettuce

Apples
Germany dominates the market with numerous varieties at the top which were Elstar, Jonagold and Braeburn. Italy participated in the market with Golden Delicious, Braeburn and Granny Smith. And for France, the Netherlands and Spain completed the offer of the European apples. The demand could be met with ease. The chances of apples from the southern hemisphere were limited as the European apples were largely free of defects. Prices generally remained constant; but in an excellent supply situation they slowly decreased.

Salad
First quantities of German iceberg lettuce arrived on almost all markets. Because of the increased supplies and competition the value of Spanish salad decreased. The local and Belgian supply of lettuce considerably intensified, so that the prices decreased. Add to this the low quality of some produce, which showed in rotten leaves. Lamb's lettuce or corn salad came mainly from Belgium, and completed the range of local products. Due to low demands a decrease in price was unavoidable.

Pears
Unusually early in the season the Santa Maria pears appeared in Frankfurt from Turkey. The supply was usually tailored to the demands, so there were no significant changes in prices.

Table grapes
Table grapes from Chile and South Africa dominated the business. The quality of the batches were good. White seedless grapes were at the centre of trade.

Strawberries
While the Italian and local deliveries massively increased, the Spanish supply of strawberries considerably decreased. The supply from the Netherlands and Belgium was of a complementary nature.

Kiwis
With the arrival of the first kiwis from New Zealand and Chile the demand of the dominant Italian supplies reduced.

Lemons
Primofiori from Spain steadily lost their market share. Desiccation and defects of the peel affected the sales.

Bananas
With a properly matched demand and supply, the prices changed only minimally. Only in Frankfurt, some second and third-rate brands lowered their prices a bit towards the weekend.

Cauliflower
The German season slowly gained momentum, which could be seen at the increased supplies. However the quality did not convince completely.

Cucumbers
The supply of German, Dutch and Belgian cucumbers increased greatly. The demand and supply wasn’t properly matched

Tomatoes
Tomatoes from Belgium and the Netherlands dominate the business. The supply significantly increased and was sufficient to meet the demand with ease.

Sweet peppers
The Netherlands is calling the shots. The availability increased some and was enough to meet the demand.

Asparagus
The local harvests dominated the market and increased greatly. The demand could hardly keep up, which is why the prices dropped in the beginning.

Onions
Spanish onions stayed ahead of Chilean onions. The prices remained mostly stable.
