Former BLE-President Günter Drexelius passed away

The first president of BLE (Federal Office for Agriculture and Food), Dr. Günter Drexelius, passed away after a long and serious illness on April 24, 2015. Dr. Drexelius has led the BLE for nine years as president after its foundation in January 1995.

It is due to him a new authority could arise out of the Bundesanstalt für landwirtschaftliche Marktordnung (BALM) and the Federal Office for Food and Forestry (BEF). In addition, Dr. Drexelius has led the move to Bonn and initiated the job profile change of the BLE.

He recently wrote a contribution for the 20th anniversary publication of the BLE with an answer to "How do you see the BLE today?"

"Today I see a successful transformation process of the BLE whose origins began already in my time, and it has subsequently gained momentum. The BLE is on the way to becoming an organisation with only little resemblance to the one with the same task 20 years ago.

Certain tasks that previously were part of the foundation of the BLE, haven’t been practised for quite some time, and I see the BLE will face no small problems when in a crisis situation politicians suddenly decide certain measures should be carried out immediately. However, if need be the BLE can carry out these tasks too."
