High performance vegetable processing line in Italy

Up to 800 kilograms of potatoes per hour can be processed by the new processing machine, which has recently been installed at the vegetable producers Ghisetti in the area of Badia Polesine in northern Italy.

This traditional company has nearly 150 years of experience in the fruit and vegetable trade. The name stands for quality, freshness and service. Among its products are cleaned, washed, trimmed, cut and vacuum-packed vegetables such as carrots, beets, corn on the cob - and potatoes in various shapes and sizes.
The increased requirements have lead to the company's decision to start processing the products themselves at their location, to have more influence on the market for pre-cooked, vacuum-packed products. The company wants to expand its product range to include extra vegetables. So a new building was erected make room for the new high-performance vegetable processing line made by Kronen.

This production line, which was made in cooperation with the companies FORMIT and EKKO, can de-stone, peel and wash potatoes as well as other vegetables. The product then is moved to the appropriate cutting machine depending on whether they need to be cut in cubes or slices.

This is part of the complete Kronen vegetables production line consisting of GEWA washing machines, cutting machines and conveyor belts.

The individual elements of the potato processing line are:
  • a storage conveyor belt to fill with vegetables
  • De-stoner to remove coarse dirt and stones
  • Scales for an optimal supply for the peeler unit
  • Combi 1000 peeler and pumps for waste transport
  • Drum washer for removing skins and peels
  • Water hopper belt
  • Roller inspection table with a feedback belt to the potatoe peeler, for potatoes that have to be peeled again. This means less staff is needed to handle to extra cleaning and correction.
After the peeling then potatoes are transferred directly to a Kronen cutting machine, either a KUJ V cube machine for dicing or a GS 10-2 tape cutting machine, for clean and even cut slices.

If the vegetables do not have to be cut, the potatoes (or other vegetables) can then be easily transported on a conveyor belt. Both cutters have the great advantage that they are mobile and thus flexible to be used at various stations of the processing line.
