The aim of the ‘Between the Rows’ tour isto ensure that HIA furthers its objectives of increasing on-farm efficiency,productivity and sales for member growers.
“We are coming to the growers to make surethey are well informed about HIA’s R&D and marketing programs, exportissues and the new ways in which we will be seeking advice from growers andother industry stakeholders,” said HIA CEO John Lloyd. “Ultimately, it’s aboutgiving growers the knowledge and services needed to build a profitable andsustainable business.” That can include measures to stop pest incursion,biosecurity in general and market access, according to HIA’s website brochure.
“HIA offers members direct influence in thefuture direction of HIA and how levy funds are invested, and a strong voice in anationwide, multi-sector R&D organisation that works on cutting edgeprojects with the best researchers in the country,” said Mr Lloyd.
HIA invests more than $100 million inR&D and Marketing programs annually, with funds from grower levies,government and other co-investors.
Members will also get access to events,research and information pertaining to Australia’s $9 billion horticultureindustry that could prove vital to the future success of farming businessesaccording to Mr Lloyd.
For those interested, Mr Lloyd also saidthat the time to become a member is during the next three months, in time tovote on proposals at the first AGM. Only levy paying members are able to voteat meetings.
HIA became the industry services body forhorticulture in November 2014, replacing Horticulture Australia Limited. Thecompany is undergoing a transformation to a new operating model of directconsultation with levy payers, member and levy payer registers and flexibleadvisory mechanisms. Funding is also split into two ‘pools’ with co-funding bythird parties allowed on longer-term projects.
