Italy: First Spanish citrus hits the market

This is the time for Spanish citrus fruit as the Italian season is finishing and the produce from the Southern hemisphere will not arrive for a few months.

"The Italian Tarocco orange season is ending. Prices are around €1.50/kg for the extra category. The Navelate and the first Valencia are arriving from Spain," explains Andrea Saturnini, wholesaler for Sa.Ga. in Verona.

"The prices of the Spanish product hover between 70 and 90 cents per kg, slightly less than last week. A few Valencia oranges are also arriving from Egypt and are sold at approx. 70 cents, as the quality of the Italian and Spanish produce is better."

"The clementine season is over. The last Nadorcott from Spain are currently being sold and there was very little produce from Morocco."

With regards to lemons, "the Italian Primofiore season is ending with interesting prices between 90 cents and €1. The Spanish Verna are now available at interesting prices - 80/90 cents per kg for the standard category and even €1.10/1.20 for the extra one."
