"product not coming off, difficult to fill in weekly programmes"

"Netherlands: "Extremely high prices on bell pepper market"

Extremely high prices are being made on the bell pepper market this week. " A lot was pre-sold, and it's very difficult to meet demand for the weekly programmes. So it's getting a bit quieter in day trade at the moment," one bell pepper seller says. "More produce was expected to enter the market this week, but the fruits aren't really coming off the plant. For next week, some more produce is expected.

This means prices of bell peppers have reached a uniquely high level. The red ones sell for 4 Euro, the yellow and orange ones around 3 Euro, and the green ones around 2.50 Euro. To compare: two weeks ago the price of red bell peppers was still around 1.50-1.60 Euro. "You don't see these prices much anymore. Spain is totally finished. Israel has gone through its bell peppers, so everyone relies on Holland. Demand is high, especially in Eastern Europe."
