Looking at the history of the tomato and pepper harvests since 1985 it immediately shows the continuous rise of the curve until 2013. In 1985, the total harvest of Austrian tomatoes was 20.205 metric ton and 28 years later, the harvest of the popular vegetables measured 53.327 metric ton.

The bell peppers (capsicums) curve looks similar: the yield increased extremely, 2.137 metric ton (1985) to 17.878 metric ton (2013). In comparison the price increase is relatively small. The price per 100 kg of peppers increased from 8.36 Euro to 17.99 Euro. And the price of tomatoes showed a negative trend: 86.55 Euro (1985) against 52.40 Euro in 2013.

A striking feature of the cucumber yield is the decline in acreage, while crop yield increased. The prices show movement in the upward direction. And the relation between acreage and yield of lettuce follows an almost identical - falling - line. The price, however, has doubled from 13.23 Euro to 26.26 Euro.
