First day Freskon passed quietly

Yesterday was the first day of Freskon, the fresh produce fair in Thessaloniki, Greece. It was still very quiet, but exhibitors were pleased with the quality of the visitors. The trade fair is being held for the first time. Exhibitors are enthusiastic about the fact that the event is organized specifically for the fruit and veg sector, and not for the entire agricultural sector.

Crisis
The general mood is good, but from conversations it becomes apparent that Greece is still suffering from the crisis. Growers are having a difficult time, seeing how the government is decreasing the amount of subsidies ever further. Traders also notice this, focusing more and more on export. Some exporters were very dependent on Russia, and had to quickly switch to new markets. In this search, they're not just looking to Europe, but they are interested in marketing their products worldwide.

A lot of fruit
Greece has a wide range of fruit, both conventional and organic. Kiwis, stone fruit, citrus, grapes and top fruit are important products that are cultivated here and exported. In addition to fruit, Greece also produces vegetables such as leeks, cucumbers, bell peppers, tomatoes and cabbage. We also saw these products at traders on the wholesale market in Thessaloniki. The photos of the fresh trade on this market can be found next week on FreshPlaza.

Yesterday evening the official opening took place, with the deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food also speaking. Today and tomorrow, the fair will be open from 10 am until 8 pm. Today, the Cherry Congress is also starting.

Tuesday next week, we'll publish a photo report of the exhibitors and visitors.
