kitchen gardens are hot

"Home grown fruit and vegetables preferred over store bought"

Kitchen gardens are hot! More and more people are growing their own vegetables, fruit and herbs. Over 60 percent of Dutch people are opting to eat fruit and vegetables from their own garden rather than those from the shop. They prefer to grow strawberries (60%), followed by herbs (50%) and tomatoes (43%). This and more is shown from the largest European garden research conducted in 17 countries* by order of Bakker, Europe's largest garden specialist. 26,760 people participated in the research in total, including over 2,200 Dutch people.

Fancy a kitchen garden to grow things like lettuce, but don't have space?

The kitchen garden is making a real comeback. When asked whether kitchen gardens are old fashioned, only 10 percent of Dutch people agreed. Kitchen garden isn't just popular in the Netherlands. The research shows that all of Europe is a fan. Bakker's sales figures underline the results. "We have been signalling a rise in the sales of kitchen garden product lately. We are playing into it by continuing to extend the assortment of seed, growing equipment and other products for the kitchen garden," according to John van Rooijen, Product Manager of Bakker.
