Local, fresh, healthy

Start of the bell pepper season from Hegau

The bell pepper season is staring once again in Rechenauer Gärtnersiedlung in Hegau. The 250,000 bell pepper plants, planted in the first calendar week, are ready for harvest. The first green bell peppers were harvested a couple of weeks ago.

Colour to the food
The harvest of the red, yellow and orange colours has started. Consumers especially love the colourful bell peppers, because they bring colour to the table. The coloured pods equally stimulate both the eyes and appetite. Which is good, because a medium-sized bell pepper provides a quarter of the recommended amount of vitamin C for an adult. And that's not nearly all. A fresh bell pepper contains vitamin E, potassium, magnesium, iron and calcium. Added to that are secondary plant substances such as carotenoids. Therefore, bell peppers fit perfectly into the diet of healthy people, because the vegetable is fat free, low in calories, and rich in fibres. It is not for nothing that bell pepperhas been the 5th most loved vegetable product among Germans for years.

90 percent from abroad

Normally, over 90 percent of the bell peppers come from abroad. The modern 11 hectare large facilities in Hegau provide the consumers in Baden-Württemberg and South Bayern with fresh, local bell peppers. Professional production by Reichenauer horticulturists, fresh harvest of the ripe pods, short transportation routes and fast distribution in the shops guarantee maximum freshness.

Exclusively bell pepper
The bell pepper from the Reichenauer horticulturist estate in Hegau is found exclusively on the markets of Edeka Southwest under the trademark “Unsere Heimat – echt & gut” (“our homeland – real and good”) and at Edeka South Bayern in the fresh produce section. A small tip: bell pepper can be kept at room temperature for two to three days, or up to a week in the fridge. When cleaned or as part of a dish, the pods also maintain their aroma after being frozen.
