Rising demand for avocado

“The avocado is currently in vogue”

“Currently, the avocado is definitely in vogue”, reports Andreas Wolf, product manager at Bratzler & Co. GmbH. The exotic, pear-shaped fruit is enjoying an ever increasing popularity in the German-speaking area. “On the German market, demand is not yet as strong as on the Swiss or Austrian markets”, Andreas wolf reports. “There, we are currently recognizing a clear increase compared to 2013/2014.”

“iss es!” for the German market
The import firm Bratzler and Co. GmbH from Karlsruhe markets their fruits under their own brand “iss es!”. “Our campaign “iss es!” has existed for several years”, the product manager explains. “In Switzerland we are underway with the brand “iss reif!”, an offshoot of the brand “iss es!”.

Interest has clearly increased
Firm Bratzler states that generally, interest in the avocado has clearly increased over the last years. “We have a significant growth in quantity yearly”, Wolf explains. While the mango has already as good as entrenched itself on the German market, the avocado used to be known as “the” strange foreigner in the food retail trade. Bratzler works together directly with the producers and farmers in the countries of origin. Thus the company can guarantee and establish a quality standard. “We work together with the largest Israeli, Chilean and Peruan suppliers of avocados”, Wolf explains.

Tracing back to the producers

Especially with avocado, the campaign has been well received by the customers, the product manager explains. The campaign “iss es!” allows customers exact backtracking of the product to the producers through the internet. “Our customer can learn very accurately where the product originates from”, Andreas Wolf explains. “Transparency is in demand. The customer does not simply want to stolidly buy something, but rather be informed, and understand where his product comes from. He clearly wants to have more knowledge than in the past.”
